Lawsuit accuses Apple of slowing older iPhones

Apple Inc. allegedly throttled the performance of older iPhone models to force consumers to buy expensive new ones, according to a new class action filed in Los Angeles federal court.

LOS ANGELES — The first class action has been filed in the wake of Apple Inc.’s admission that it throttled the performance of older iPhone models.

Apple said this was a side effect of software upgrades meant to protect phones from unexpectedly shutting down. Lawyers for the class say it was done to force consumers to buy expensive new phones, according to the complaint filed in the Central District of California.
