Pioneering Japanese-American judge practiced perseverance
NAKAZATO

Arthur Nakazato, the first Japanese-American appointed U.S. magistrate judge in the continental United States, has died. Nakazato suffered from a resurgence of lymphoma, according to his friend, retired state court judge Kazuharu Makino. Nakazato was 65.

Nakazato died Dec. 17 but the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California did not publicize his death until Friday.
