An appellate court has affirmed the constitutionality of the bureau, but the decision is a hollow victory for consumer advocates under the Trump administration.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was affirmed as constitutional by a federal appellate court, but the win is unlikely to make a big difference because Mick Mulvaney, the agency's interim director, is undoing Obama-era policies.

An appellate court has affirmed the constitutionality of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, but the decision is a hollow victory for consumer advocates under the Trump administration.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit issued a 250-page decision on Wednesday that upheld the constitutionality of the agency's independent structure under a single director who can only be fired by the president for cause.
