Bill allowing more data breach suits moves ahead in state Legislature

The state Senate Judiciary Committee has advanced a bill that would allow people to sue companies for data breaches, even if they were not customers. But during a contentious late afternoon hearing on Tuesday, business groups claimed the proposed legislation would unleash a “barrage of lawsuits” while doing little to protect consumers.
