Sessions’ directive expected to hasten uptick in border prosecutions

The attorney general’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy comes as there has already been a steady increase in illegal crossing charges.

Federal prosecutions of illegal border crossing cases are already on pace for a 20 percent increase this fiscal year, a trend expected to accelerate as result of U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ announcement on Monday of a “zero tolerance” policy for such offenses.
