Bill to double financial limit on expedited civil cases moves head in the Legislature

Courts would be able to hear limited civil cases with potential recovery as high as $50,000 under a bill passed in the state Senate.

SACRAMENTO — Courts would be able to hear limited civil cases with potential recovery as high as $50,000 under a bill passed in the state Senate.

Sponsored by the Consumer Attorneys of California, SB 1012 would double the current $25,000 jurisdictional limit for such cases. It heads to the Assembly after passing Monday 25-10 on a mainly party-line vote.
