Legislature may follow chief justice’s suggestion and change standing law over taxes

The state Senate Judiciary Committee will take up a bill Tuesday clarifying that many different types of taxes, not just property taxes, can be cited to establish standing in a taxpayer lawsuit.

AB 2376 was inspired by a 2017 state Supreme Court case -- more specifically, by an concurrent opinion by Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye asking "the Legislature to revisit" the law.
