After Janus, nonunion teachers seek to recover dues

A proposed class of nonunion teachers have sued unions and school districts in California seeking to recoup required fees they paid in past years, now that the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled those fees are unconstitutional.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito wrote the Janus opinion that said public employees can't be forced to contribute to unions they do not want to join.

A proposed class of nonunion teachers have sued unions and school districts in California seeking to recoup required fees they paid in past years now that the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled those fees are unconstitutional.

Called "agency fees," the paycheck deductions are a reduced union charge applied to non-member employees with the promise that the money is not used for explicit political purposes such as candidate donations.
