Appellate court allows operation of disputed oil wells to continue

The court of appeal opinion rejected the Center for Biological Diversity’s argument that wells with disputed permits must be closed under the Safe Drinking Water Act.

Oil companies can continue using oil and gas injection wells under review for their potential impacts on drinking water supplies, an appellate court panel ruled Tuesday.

The 1st District Court of Appeal rejected the Center for Biological Diversity's argument that the state Department of Conservation must order the wells in question closed under federal Safe Drinking Water Act regulations.
