Wal-Mart settles seating case for $65 million

The retail giant has agreed to pay out $65 million and introduce a pilot program for cashiers, making it the second to settle such a case since the Supreme Court ruled on the issue.

Walmart Inc. has agreed to a proposed $65 million settlement in a case over its failure to provide legally mandated seating to cashiers, agreeing also to institute a pilot program, according to a preliminary motion for approval filed by counsel.

Per the proposed settlement notice Thursday, up to $21.7 million, approximately one-third, would go to attorney fees, $312,000 would go to costs, $150,000 would be allotted to settlement adm...
