Asylum denials increased under Obama and Trump, study says

Trump administration policy changes on asylum have likely contributed to a year-over-year trend of increasing denials of applications that began under the Obama administration, a recent study says.

Syracuse University’s TRAC program found Fiscal Year 2018 broke records for the number of decisions issued in asylum cases at over 42,000, but also saw a record high for denials of applications over the same period.
