Appeals court tosses 4 lawsuits saying state prisons exposed inmates to Valley Fever

California prison officials cannot be held liable for allegedly heightening the risk that inmates under their care could contract an airborne illness disproportionately affecting minority groups, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled.

9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Andrew J. Kleinfeld wrote an opinion ruling that California prison officials are protected by qualified immunity in lawsuits by inmates over their contraction of Valley Fever.
