Data breach notification bill would have minor impact, lawyers say

Attorney General Xavier Becerra and Assemblyman Marc Levine introduced legislation Thursday intended to strengthen California’s data breach notification laws by expanding requirements for companies to notify customers if their passport and government ID numbers, as well as biometric data — such as fingerprints, and iris and facial recognition scans — were stolen.
