San Francisco became the first major U.S. city to ban the use of facial recognition technology for law enforcement agencies after supervisors passed an ordinance denouncing the technology as racist.
The Stop Secret Surveillance Ordinance, introduced by Supervisor Aaron Peskin, passed 8-1 at Tuesday’s board meeting with Supervisor Catherine Stefani the holdout.
