Legal industry vows to continue efforts to diversify ranks

Under the law, government and public institutions cannot discriminate against or grant preferential treatment to persons based on race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in public employment, public education and public contracting.

While some were hoping for a reversal of California's ban on affirmative action, law schools and law firms said this week they doubted the law would hamper their efforts to increase diversity in the legal profession.
