LA public defender caseload hiked as some attorneys take extended leave for fear of COVID-19
As the department’s backlog continues to grow, some attorneys say it has adopted an “all hands on deck” approach to make sure criminal defendants are given the representation they need – a job that has taken on a special urgency amid media reports of inmates contracting COVID-19 at high rates in county jails.
