Santa Monica sued over ban on short-term leases
Plaintiffs' lawyers say the ordinance was enacted hastily and disrupts the city's rental housing market. The ordinance, passed during a Sept. 8 city council meeting, requires all rental units to be rented only to natural persons, only to tenants intending the unit to be their primary residence, and must be rented for at least one year and be rented unfurnished.
