Civil commitment hearings for sex predators should be public, lawmaker says
The proposed measure, SB 248, introduced last week by state Sen. Patricia Bates, R-Laguna Niguel, would also require that the public have access to hearings regarding the potential release of sexually violent predators, a legal designation that applies to convicted sex offenders who have been deemed to have a mental health disorder and are considered likely to commit new sex crimes.
