USC law school becomes first to mandate course on racism

The course will focus on how the law and lawyers play a role in shaping legal doctrines that can appear race-neutral but are not.

USC Gould School of Law is the first among the top 25 law schools in the nation to add a required course on race and racism to its curriculum as other law schools are looking to follow suit.

The course is called "Race, Racism, and the Law" and is an effort by faculty, students and administrators to take action in light of protests against racism last year.
