US judge seeks outside legal help in homelessness case
Presiding over a lawsuit filed last year by an alliance of business owners and residents who said the government failed to address the homelessness crisis, U.S. District Judge David O. Carter of the Central District of California indicated in an order issued Feb. 23 that he was willing to jump through hoops to allow outside assistance from the Foundation and Hueston Hennigan LLP.




Citing the complexities in a massive project he undertook to fix the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles, a federal judge proposed enlisting the help of the newly formed Social Justice Legal Foundation -- of which he was a board member -- a suggestion that was met with objections from the county and several intervenors who said outside help is precluded by law and could result in conflict.
