Waste company agrees to repay San Franciscans $100M in overcharges

The settlement announced on the same day a lawsuit was filed in San Francisco Superior Court is part of a sweeping investigation into former Public Works Director Mohammed Nuru, who is alleged to have accepted bribes in exchange for allowing Recology to hike its rates.

Waste management company Recology will repay San Franciscans nearly $100 million for overcharging ratepayers over the last four years, City Attorney Dennis Herrera said Thursday.
