Federal rule to ease classifying contract workers is paused

The Department of Labor is widely expected to either substantially revise or repeal the rule, which was finalized by President Donald Trump’s administration in January and was to have taken effect on Monday.

A U.S. Department of Labor rule originally slated to take effect Monday and make it easier for businesses to classify workers as independent contractors may not survive, as the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs continues to review a new version of the rule submitted by President Joseph Biden's administration last week.
