Bill to give public more court access moves forward

AB716 adds “remote access” to the state’s definition of public access to the courts, bars courts using remote access to a particular proceeding as a reason to restrict physical access, and mandates that news media and the public must be treated the same.

A bill to allow public remote access to court proceedings easily passed the Assembly Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.

AB 716 was one of several pandemic-inspired bills introduced in the current legislative session.
