Split circuit says government can limit in-home religious meetings

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied plaintiffs’ request to halt state limits on religious meetings in homes such as Bible study groups.

A federal appeals court turned down Tuesday a bid to block the state's restrictions on religious gatherings in homes, drawing clashing interpretations from the justices in a split decision over U.S. Supreme Court precedent on balancing pandemic policies and constitutional liberties.
