Outside counsel may have to pay costs after LA drops suit

Responding to the lawsuit filed by New York based electronic discovery company JJ Shea’s, former outside counsel to the city Paul Kiesel filed an amended cross complaint Thursday arguing the city should pay the e-discovery bill for services rendered in an abandoned suit against consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Private lawyers hired to represent the city of Los Angeles in a now abandoned lawsuit might be on the hook for more than $4 million in electronic discovery costs and damages, per a litigation agreement at the heart of a lawsuit brought by the plaintiff company.
