Law jobs drop seen as sign of consolidation

The report does not breakdown what positions are being scaled back, but according to legal recruiters, it is likely office staff and not lawyers having a tough time.

The legal services industry lost 1,400 jobs in March, a sign not of hard times for lawyers but rather that law firms are adapting practices to new working environments, according to legal recruiters.

New numbers released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that the legal service industry is still 35,000 jobs behind compared to March 2020, when law firms started working remotely due to the pandemic.
