Newport Beach attorney indicted on referral for compensation charges
The indictment, returned in late April, alleges Steven O. Mehr, a sole practitioner in Newport Beach, bought usage rights to “Jacoby & Meyers” for his attorney marketing firm and struck a deal with at least six attorneys who agreed to pay him “a monthly fee for a predetermined number of client referrals, or a percentage of the attorneys’ fees collected from the referred case,” the indictment said.




An Orange County grand jury has indicted a California lawyer on two dozen felony charges alleging he engaged in a "referral for compensation" scheme when he bought the rights to use the name of personal injury firm Jacoby & Meyers.
