Senate passes bill to change court reporting rules to ease backlogs
SB 241 would allow companies that are not considered “shorthand reporting corporations” under state law to offer court reporting services between July 1, 2022, and Jan. 1, 2024. The bill would also allow witnesses to give testimony by telephone or videoconference during that period.




A near-unanimous California Senate approved a bill to suspend some rules governing court reporters and remote appearances until 2024, with the goal of helping clear a huge backlog of civil cases.
SB 241 would allow companies that are not considered “shorthand reporting corporations” under state law to offer court reporting services between July 1, 2022, and Jan. 1, 2024. These companies would need to pay a fee of up to $500 annually...
