Legal incubators train lawyers for the unrepresented
The Bay Area Legal Incubator, which launched in 2014, is one of 10 in California and 70 in the U.S. and four other countries, according to the ABA’s most recent tally. Most of the incubators are run by law schools, legal aid organizations, bar associations or a combination of the three.




Legal incubators, which help attorneys launch sustainable solo practices to serve medium income clients, remain rare but are starting to get noticed by the legal community.
In May, Bay Area Legal Incubator Director Cynthia Chandler was recognized by the American Bar Association with the 2021 Pro Bono Publico Award for leading the program and her overall commitment to pro bono work.
