Ex-lawyer to appeal ruling he can’t discharge $2M bar penalty in bankruptcy

Anthony J. Kassas of San Francisco sought a determination to discharge the debt he owed to the bar’s Client Security Fund after he filed for bankruptcy in 2019.

A disbarred lawyer who defrauded distressed homeowners now plans to appeal a ruling asserting he still owes more than $2 million to the State Bar after a judge said the lawyer could not use bankruptcy to escape penalties.
