Judge blocks FBI from using civil forfeiture in Beverly Hills safety deposit box case

In the raid on U.S. Private Vaults on March 22, FBI agents seized property, some of it possibly from people who weren’t targeted in the warrant. The FBI offered to return that property if the owners identified themselves. Some refused and instead hired lawyers to sue the government.

A federal judge temporarily blocked the government from using civil forfeiture law to seize contents from safety deposit boxes taken from a private vault in Beverly Hills during an FBI raid, finding that agents provided no factual basis for the seizure.
