Circuit OKs order against holding unaccompanied minor immigrants in motels
Scott G. Stewart, a U.S. Department of Justice attorney, said DHS was following a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention order to keep unaccompanied minors away from other detained immigrants to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.




A 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel on Wednesday affirmed a district judge's order denying the government the right to hold unaccompanied minor immigrants in motels for extended periods pending expulsion from the country.
U.S. District Judge Dolly M. Gee of the Central District of California issued two orders enjoining the Department of Homeland Security from detaining the youths in motels, instead of licensed facilities, under the terms of the 1997 Flores settlement.
