Bill bars police from posting mugs of nonviolent crime defendants

“When a department publishes a suspect’s mug shot ... without waiting for a conviction or even for charges to be formally filed, the public does rush to judgment,” said state Sen. Sydney Kamlager, D-Los Angeles.

The state Senate on Thursday unanimously passed a bill barring law enforcement agencies from posting on social media the mugshots of people arrested on suspicion of nonviolent crimes.
