Zoom pays $85M to settle Zoombombing class action
“This case was unusual because the overwhelming majority of users never paid to use Zoom,” said Mark C. Molumphy, a partner with Cotchett Pitre & McCarthy LLP in Burlingame who was colead counsel in the case. “This settlement I think is somewhat novel in that it’s acknowledging the value of people’s privacy and putting a dollar amount on that expectation.”




Class counsel announced Monday an $85 million settlement with Zoom Video Communications Inc. that will pay even those who did not subscribe to the service for interference by hackers.
In agreeing to the deal, Zoom did not admit any violation of customers' privacy but committed to enhancing its security features.
Plaintiffs' attorneys said the settlement could provide additional protections for technology users in the future.
