Probation officers sue Sacramento County over body cameras

“The use of body-worn cameras by peace officers in California is governed by the California Constitution and the California Invasion of Privacy Act, which do not authorize probation officers to operate body-worn cameras,” argued the attorney for a probation officers union, Christopher W. Miller.

A union representing probation officers sued the County of Sacramento this week, claiming a body camera requirement violates the privacy rights of probationers. The attorney for the Sacramento County Probation Association, Christopher W. Miller, argued "probation officers perform law enforcement functions that differ significantly from those performed by police officers and deputy sheriffs."
