Suit asks court to enjoin itself over delayed trials

The lawsuit’s venue is not a major issue, San Francisco Public Defender Manohar P. Raju said Wednesday. “Regardless of what judge hears this case, I’m confident that they will reach the same conclusion that we have, which is that the status quo is untenable and unlawful.”

In an unusual tactic, San Francisco's public defender sued the superior court, asking it to enjoin itself and prioritize backlogged criminal trials, though the court contended Wednesday it is already doing so and would respond "in court."

The lawsuit's venue is not a major issue, Public Defender Manohar P. Raju said Wednesday, responding to questions about possible recusal and transfer to another county.
