Law will allow resentencing for attempted murder and manslaugher

Greg Totten, chief executive officer of the California District Attorneys Association said additional funding was approved for public defenders to address these and other petitions, but no additional funding was given to prosecutors or courts.

In January felons convicted of attempted murder and manslaughter will be able to petition for resentencing under a bill signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Other bills he signed Tuesday evening will make changes to the admissibility of what an alleged sex crime victim was wearing as evidence on the issue of consent, and remove mandatory minimum sentences for nonviolent drug crimes.
