Increase in claims expected with change in law officer sex crimes statutes

“By the nature of the law changing, it will ultimately result in additional claimants coming forward. That’s the purpose for it, to allow people to have their day in court,” partner and personal injury attorney Douglas A. Rochen of Abir Cohen Treyzon Salo LLP said Thursday.

Attorneys expect an increase in claims now that Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law AB 1455, which enacts sweeping changes to civil sexual assault litigation involving on-duty law enforcement officers, such as reviving previously time-barred claims.
