US not protecting speckled dace fish in California, lawsuit states

The Center for Biological Diversity alleges that speckled dace populations in Santa Ana and Long Valley are nearing extinction partly because the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service didn’t protect the species.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has failed to protect two populations of fish unique to California in violation of the Endangered Species Act, according to a lawsuit filed Wednesday.

The Center for Biological Diversity alleges that speckled dace populations in Santa Ana and Long Valley are nearing extinction partly because the agency didn't protect the species.
