Foul odor brings lawsuit

The lawsuit was filed Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court against Marathon Petroleum and several other companies on behalf of a family of six who live in the affected areas near the Dominguez Channel that they say is fouled by toxic chemical emissions including hydrogen sulfide.

Carson residents have filed a lawsuit over a foul smell emanating from a nearby runoff channel that they say is jointly caused by a petroleum refinery that emitted toxic chemicals and a beauty supply company that failed to clean up burned debris from a warehouse fire in September. The plaintiffs said both companies caused toxic gases to blanket the community and predicted residents would likely suffer adverse health effects.
