DOJ sues Uber over wait time charges for disabled

Uber said its policy had been to refund any wait time fees for disabled drivers if they informed the company they were charged. Last week, the company said it changed its policy so any rider who certifies they are disabled will have fees automatically waived.

The U.S. Department of Justice sued Uber Technologies Inc. Wednesday, alleging the company violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by charging disabled riders for the extra time it takes them to enter a vehicle.

The complaint filed in the Northern District of California states that Uber, under a policy it started in 2016, is violating the ADA by failing to reasonably modify its wait time fee policy for passengers who need more than 2 ...
