Central Valley water contract struck down, tribes, environmentalists cheer

While the deal was denied on procedural grounds, the decision has been lauded by groups, including tribal interests wary of the contract’s potential to adversely affect fish populations and public water supply.

A Fresno County Superior Court judge struck down a proposed contract between the Westlands Water District and the Central Valley Project that would exempt the district from congressional restrictions on acreage and pricing.

While the deal was denied on procedural grounds, the decision has been lauded by groups, including tribal interests wary of the contract's potential to adversely affect fish populations and public water supply.
