Circuit revives asylum bid because petitioners are evangelical Christians

U.S. District Judge Sharon L. Gleason of Alaska, an appointee of President Barack Obama sitting by designation, ruled the board did not assess the “individualized risk of persecution” that Henri Nababan and Harlena Rose Silalahi face in Indonesia.

A 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel on Tuesday revived the asylum bid of two Seventh Day Adventists from Indonesia on the grounds that the Board of Immigration Appeals did not consider their status as evangelical Christians.
