Newsom could set off legislative arms race with gun law proposal, experts warn

The governor, outraged over the U.S. Supreme Court’s failure to block a Texas abortion law allowing private citizens to sue doctors who perform abortions after six weeks, directed his staff to write a legislative proposal similarly allowing private citizens to sue ghost gun manufacturers and sellers.

Legal experts warned Monday that Gov. Gavin Newsom’s push for legislation allowing private citizens to sue ghost gun manufacturers and sellers would set off a political arms race in which legislators use private rights of actions to circumvent constitutional scrutiny.
