AG Bonta asks bar to warn lawyers about noncompete contracts
With a few exceptions, noncompete agreements — to restrain former employees from working for competitors or beginning their own competing businesses — are unenforceable in California.




In a letter to the State Bar Standing Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct, Attorney General Rob Bonta expressed his concern over noncompete provisions in employment contracts, and emphasized the need to hold attorneys who advise clients to use them accountable.
