Grappling with a Covid surge, courts halt or pair back trials
In the Jan. 3 order, Central District Court Executive Kiry K. Gray said all jury trials were suspended because of the “alarming surge of COVID-19 cases nationwide and in the Central District of California largely due to a new variant of the virus” as well as “an increase of suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases within the courthouses of the Central District of California.”




Some of the state's largest federal and state courts halted or reduced trials and other proceedings as the number of Covid cases rose sharply, but others said they would remain open citing constitutional concerns.
