Stanford Law School professor joins San Francisco Ethics Commission

Michael Romano serves as chair of the Committee on the Revision of the Penal Code, which makes recommendations to the governor and the Legislature on how to simplify and rationalize criminal law and procedure, as well as establish alternatives to incarceration.

Michael Romano, director and founder of the Three Strikes and Justice Advocacy Projects at Stanford Law School, was sworn in Monday to the district attorney's seat on the San Francisco Ethics Commission.

Romano succeeds James Bell, founder and president of the W. Haywood Burns Institute, who recently retired and is moving out of San Francisco. Bell was appointed to the seat by District Attorney Chesa Boudin last year.
