JPMorgan sues state for legal costs in halting questionable wire transfer

“This action arises from JPMorgan Chase Bank N.A. success in returning to California nearly half a billion dollars in taxpayer money,” wrote Christopher T. Casamassima, representing JPMorgan as a partner with WilmerHale in Los Angeles.

The bank sued the state on Thursday to recover $5.9 million in legal fees and expenses it says it incurred after canceling a questionable $457 million payment to buy N95 masks. Some state officials later praised that decision, according to the complaint in JPMorgan Chase Bank v. California, filed in Sacramento County Superior Court.
