LA reaches settlement with street vendors banned near iconic sites
"We got everything that we asked for from the court and more," said Katherine J.G. McKeon, an attorney with Western Center on Law and Poverty, after it was agreed that the city will refund fines for all vendors who paid them.
The city of Los Angeles has agreed to void sidewalk vending citations issued since January 2019 and refund vendors who paid their fines, a victory for some of the city's most visible and vulnerable workers. Attorneys that hammered out the settlement believe their strategy in Los Angeles County Superior Court could be used to undo street vending restrictions across the state.
