Oil well conversion has 'negligible' environmental risk, panel rules

The ruling reversed the Contra Costa County Superior Court's finding that the project fell outside environmental exemptions.

An oil company in Contra Costa County will be able to repurpose more than 2,000 barrels of water produced from oil field operations rather than transport it to an offsite disposal site thanks to a 1st District Court of Appeal ruling.

The appellate panel found that the environmental effects of injecting the water directly into an aquifer were negligible, contrary to a ruling in Contra Costa County Superior Court.
